Managing Your General Settings

Note: it can take a month or more for Google to index and rank your website. This is an automatic process and you can do nothing to speed it up. You do not need to “submit” your website to Google as some people would like you to believe (and would like you to pay for).

Click 'Site Settings'

Member Bio Picture and Member Bio Field

To get here: From your Control Panel's Main Menu, click on “Site Settings”.

The Member Bio information and image are shown when your artworks are displayed on our website shops.

You can upload a Bio picture of yourself using the Edit button, this will open an image upload dialog box as shown here:

You can enter a brief bio in the field provided by clicking Edit and then Save Info when you are finished.

Website Name

To get here: From your Control Panel's Main Menu, click on “Site Settings”.

The Website Name field is usually your name, but can be whatever name you identify yourself with.

Example of how it can appear on your website:

☛ To edit your Website Name, click the “Edit” button. When finished, click the “Save Info” button.

Description of Work

To get here: From your Control Panel's Main Menu, click on “Site Settings”.

The Description of Work field is your website's short description and it will go near your website name (depending on your choice for your layout). It should be SHORT and not include your name. For example, “Tuscan Impressionist Landscapes”.

Example of how it can appear on your website:

☛ To edit your Description of Work, click the “Edit” button. When finished, click the “Save Info” button.

Default Browser Title

To get here: From your Control Panel's Main Menu, click on “Site Settings”.

Your Default Browser Title should have a few words, probably no more than 5 or 6, to sum up theme of your work. It is VERY important in dictating how Google and the other search engines index and rank your site. It is probably the single most important factor, so spend a little time with this and make it specific as possible, not general. If, for example, you are a California landscape painter, then 'California landscape paintings' should be in the browser title rather than simply 'landscape painter.' The Title shows on the upper left hand corner of your browser and appears on all pages. This title is also important to search engines as many use this as part of the description of your site in their search results. Always try to use your name in the title.

You can override this value on interior pages if you wish. Go here: Managing Your Browser Title Tags to see how to edit a page and alter the 'browser window title' for each page. If you leave it blank, this default one will be used instead.

☛ To edit your Default browser Title, click the “Edit” button. When finished, click the “Save” button.

Site Keywords

To get here: From your Control Panel's Main Menu, click on “Site Settings”.

The Site Keywords field is keywords that are also used by search engines to index and rank your site, and they are not seen by visitors to your site. Keywords should be words that correspond to your art and to you - your first name, last name, town, country, medium(s), genre(s) you work in, and any other words that can characterize your work. The more specific these words are, the more likely your work will be found in searches. Do not repeat any words or phrases exactly: i.e. “Tuscan painting, Tuscan painting, Tuscan painting”. This is considered spamming and will be penalized by search engines.

Separate your keywords with commas.

☛ To edit your Site Keywords, click the Edit button, then when finished, click the Save button.

Currency Symbol

To get here: From your Control Panel's Main Menu, click on “General Settings”.

☛Select the currency symbol you wish to display with your artwork by clicking Edit. $ US Dollar is the default setting for American members.

Measurements

To get here: From your Control Panel's Main Menu, click on “General Settings”.

☛ Select the measurement type you wish to use, Imperial (feet/inches/lbs) or Metric (cm/kg).

Meta Description

To get here: From your Control Panel's Main Menu, click on “General Settings”.

This is also a site description, but is for search engine use. It is not actually seen by visitors to the site, it is only 'read' by search engine spiders as they categorize and rank your site. A sample Meta Description might read, “Impressionist lyrical colorful Tuscan landscape paintings of Tuscany in oil and acrylic by [Your Name] featuring scenes of Tuscany Italy landscapes”. Note the near repetition of terms that are specific to the art work and that the artist wants to emphasize.

☛ To edit your Meta Description, click the Edit button, then when finished, click the Save button.
